Interactive Activity 2: “AI Drawing Challenge”

Duration:
20 minutes

Materials Needed:

  • Computers or Tablets: Each child or group of children will need a device with internet connectivity.
  • Access to Quick, Draw!: Ensure that the devices can access the Quick, Draw! website or another similar online AI tool that recognizes drawings.

How It Works:

Get your devices ready!

Make sure everyone is ready to start the challenge.

Set up computers or tablets with internet access.

Open the Quick, Draw! website (or a similar AI drawing game) on each device.

It’s time to draw!

Watch the AI guess what you’re drawing within 20 seconds. The AI will try to figure it out as you draw!

Take turns drawing a simple object on the screen. You can draw anything, like a house, tree, or cat.

Get instant feedback

  • After you finish your drawing, the game will tell you if the AI guessed correctly.
  • If the AI gets it right, great! If not, think about why it might have been confused.

Let’s talk about what happened.

  • Discuss how the AI recognized your drawings.
  • Learn how the AI has been trained by looking at many examples and uses patterns, like shapes and lines, to make guesses.

Talk about surprises

  • Were there times when the AI didn’t guess correctly?
  • Discuss why that might have happened and what this tells us about the challenges and limitations of AI in understanding images.

Learning Outcome:

Through this activity, you’ll learn how AI uses image recognition by analyzing patterns.
You’ll see how AI understands visual data, such as shapes and outlines, and how it improves its guesses as it “learns” from more examples.
